DD-WRT on Belkin Wireless USB Print Server

Posted by tom January 14th, 2007

Tonight I’ve installed DD-WRT on a Belkin Wireless USB Print Server (Model: F1UP0001, it says VER. 1000df on the bottom). I’ve downloaded “dd-wrt.v23_sp2_micro” and I’m using “dd-wrt.v23_micro_generic.bin” on the Belkin device.

UPDATE: After writing this article I’ve also tried “dd-wrt.v23_generic.bin” which also ran fine on the Print Server. I did however find out that working with FireFox instead of Safari caused me some problems with the web management interface. So use Safari!

I don’t know whether this is the right procedure, but this is what I did using my Mac OSX 10.4 PowerBook.

  • Upgrade the F1UP0001 with the F5D7130 firmware. The F5D7130 is a 54g Wireless Network Access Point.
  • Reboot the device and reset it to factory defaults.
  • Start up tftp and do: binary [enter], verbose [enter], trace [enter], rexmt 1 [enter] and timeout 30 [enter]
  • Now disconnect the Belkin device from power
  • Now type “put dd-wrt.v23_micro_generic.bin” and cut and past this in your buffer (don’t type enter)
  • Remove the “put dd-wrt.v23_micro_generic.bin” from your terminal
  • Now type “connect 192.168.2.1” (don’t press enter)
  • Now connect the power and press enter immediately.
  • Now paste “put dd-wrt.v23_micro_generic.bin” from your buffer and type enter.
If everything’s correct you should see something like:
sent DATA <block=3375, 512 bytes>
received ACK <block=3375>
sent DATA <block=3376, 512 bytes>
received ACK <block=3376>
sent DATA <block=3377, 512 bytes>
received ACK <block=3377>

Now use your browser to connect to your DD-WRT Control Panel

You should see something like:

Is the Belkin web interface usable after updating the f1up0001 with the other device firmware?

Does DD-WRT or F5D7130 (firmware update) offer support for WPA wireless security?

Recently replaced my router and trying to figure out what to do with this Belkin printer server device since it wont support WPA (used on new router).

    Thanks Steve

Thanks Tom :D Works for ver.2002uk too , looking in to getting usb support working now.

It didn’t connect at first try so be patient. I ” NEEDED TO RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULTS” before the tftp upload would work.

I have the same print server. I got a version of the firmware a while back that supports WPA from a beklin site in .de IIRC.

What does DD-WRT buy you? Does this thing work like a full wireless router WITH printserver support with DD-WRT on it?

    Thanks!

  4. Lundgren Says:

belkin Firmware Version: 4.00.03 supports WPA-PSK

I tried to upgrade my F1UP with a F5D7130 (maybe not the good one). Now my spooler is OoO. Here is the LED status: Every LED is green (not blinking) Except : Lan : amber (sometimes blinking) Status : no color Error : Red

Tried to reset the device ... nothing No ping reply (tried 192.168.1.1-2, 192.168.2.1-254) Yesterday I remove the screw to have a look inside the Beast. I found that the Flash chip is from AMD (am29lv160). I will try to short address pins. To be continued ….
